FIRE DANGER

BE PREPARED FOR WILDFIRE RISK WHERE YOU LIVE

With the prevalence of wildfires in the western United States and in Canada, we have decided to take a look at areas in Brown Township which present a potentially dangerous situation.  Overgrown Christmas tree plantations are often full of Blue Spruce and Douglas Fir trees.  Due to poor health of the older trees, close plantings, and abnormally high levels of woody debris, these plantations can translate into an increased wildfire risk.

It is important for Brown Township to promote human safety.   We are interested in finding a balance, whereby healthy levels of woody debris can be maintained in forests while also protecting buildings and other areas that would pose a safety risk if subjected to fire.  Michigan State University Extension developed a series of “fire wise” practices to help landowners protect buildings and other structures to read more Click Here.
